The tiny town of Locke, a historic Chinese settlement tucked away along the Sacramento Delta, presented a completely different subject matter. Our hostess Martha was friendly and welcoming, and an accomplished artist as well. I found interesting scenes everywhere I looked. I chose to paint the historic building that houses Martha's tiny 'stairway' studio. I wanted particularly to capture the light and shadow play on the upstairs railing. The subject matter and my newfound attitude of 'lighten up already' helped me to approach this painting in a more productive way, and though it is still only a 'sketch', I felt much more satisfied by the results.
So, I am posting both paintings, warts and all. I promised in my first post to show my "failures" as well as my more successful attempts in my journey to become a better painter, so I'll swallow my pride in hopes that there will be a record of improvement in my progress toward producing more art, more consistently.
It was so much fun!
